What Coaching is Not:
CONSULTING
The main difference is that the consultant promotes themselves as the expert in certain aspects of life, and the coach accepts that YOU are the expert and have within yourself the answer to any situation you may face. Consultants have an agenda and possible answers for you. I have no agenda except to help you get what you want.
My true expertise is in the coaching process.
THERAPY
A therapist's typical functions are to help clients fix problems, overcome issues, and sometimes manage mental illness. Coaches do not see anything as a problem, only a situation or condition, we focus on SOLUTIONS! We do not dwell in the past or analyze behavior; we simply focus on taking you from where you are...to where you want to be. Think of this...if you walk up to a locked fence, the therapist helps figure out who locked it and why, we help you get over the fence!
BEST FRIEND
We all know how valuable best friends are. Usually what happens is, and you tell me if this is true or not, is that best friends usually end up giving you their own personal advice. Lets face it, friends usually have their own agendas, and more often than not are too happy to tell you what you SHOULD do. Coaching is a collaborative effort that is solely based on what you want, we are objective and non-judgmental.
MENTORING
The mentor has "Been there and done that," Someone who will "Show us the ropes." As a coach, we do not share our personal experiences as a model of success for you. If we do share experiences, it is only so you can see another way of doing it.
